1) Start with a clean canvas. Using masking tape, create a simple picture.
2) Turn your child loose with poster paint and a sponge brush.
3) Make sure the canvas is completely covered with paint.
4) Let canvas dry completely. Peel off tape. Voila!
(second attempt not as successful, mostly due to Mom's limited masking tape skills....)
